Launceston’s first whisky distillery, the Caledonian Distillery, was established in 1824 and became one of the Colony’s foremost distilleries. In 1839, the Distillation Prohibition Act was enacted – outlawing the distilling of spirits across the island. Since 1992 when the law was changed to allow for the first modern day distillery, Hobart has been home to a growing number of producers.
